Do not disturb.

I’m on vacation mode.

That’s right, you heard me. For the first time in foreverrrrrrr (Frozen reference, anyone?) I planned a vacation.

Not a long weekend. A real freaking vacation. With beaches and margaritas and spas and relaxation. Sun, sand, and bliss. 4 nights, 5 days, with my bestie, celebrating her accomplishment of graduating law school.

But Sarah, you’re poor…

And you’re so right…BUT I’m also a sucker for a good deal. So when the Westin Resort & Spa in Cancun emailed me saying that I could stay for 5 days with free daily breakfast, free nightly drinks, and some Marriott Bonvoy points, you best believe I signed up.

Who cares that I’d have to attend a 3 hour presentation where they attempted to sell me a piece of their timeshare. Jokes on them, right?

Fast forward to September 1st…

The day before vacation. T minus one day until vacay. The following is a reenactment of what actually happened on that day.

2:11 PM – Florence:
“Dude…I cannot find this passport”

Am I panicked at this text? Absolutely not. Partially thinking she is joking, partially at ease, my most responsible friend couldn’t have possibly misplaced her passport. I shrug it off and continue about my day. Then, it happens. I get the following text:

4:03 PM – Florence:
“You may be going alone Sarah”

4:21 PM – Florence:
“I’ve turned up everything and now I’m just sitting on the floor crying”

Okay Sarah. No need to panic. Don’t stress her out, I thought to myself. The more you emphasize the stress of the situation, the harder it is going to be for her to find her passport.

With my bags halfway packed, I sat on the bed, unsure about what to do. Pulling the trigger too soon and canceling the trip, I ran the risk of her finding the passport with no vacation for us to enjoy. Waiting too long, I either went to Mexico alone, or I lost the trip I was dreaming so much about.

6:21 PM – Florence:
“I just legitimately can not believe this. I can tell you where all my diaries are from the past 10 years, where my license is, where literally ANYTHING is. But I have 0 recollection of my passport and the places I thought I would put it, it’s not there”

6:23 PM – Florence:
“Add this to your blog”

Even amidst a tragic situation, my girl Flo hadn’t lost her sense of humor. We both knew this would make for a good story. Sarah plans vacation for the first time in over a year to truly relax and her “dumb ass friend loses her passport”.

Moving forward…

Around 10 PM, we called it quits and admitted defeat. I called the airline and luckily was able to recover most of the flight costs due to booking the flights with miles. Thanks, Delta!

I called the resort the next morning, and while I don’t normally pray for a hurricane, Dorian really hooked us up. No questions asked, we were able to reschedule our stay for no extra fee.

It’s no wonder that my friends always say that every day is an adventure being friends with me.

PS – In case you were wondering, I told Florence not to tell me if she ever finds her passport. I’d like to remain blissfully unaware.

PPS – My girl not only graduated from law school, but that week, we also found out she kicked the bar exam’s ass! FLO’S GOING TO BE A LAWYER! I’m so proud of you and can’t wait to celebrate (let’s try this again) in December.

This girl is a genius and I’m so proud of her and everything she has accomplished.
